An Alternative Approach to Dual Credit

  The presenters will share their experiences in the design and coordination of a partnership between 17 high schools and the community college, in which high school students enroll in College Algebra for dual credit, while the college retains control over the course content, testing, and grading.

  The purpose of this discussion time is to share the status of dual credit at each of our schools, how we each got to our current situation, the concerns we have, and whether KAMATYC should make any recommendations.
 
AMATYC Project ACCCESS - A Great Opportunity to Develop

  AMATYC Project Advancing Community College Careers:  Education, Scholarship, and Service (ACCCESS) is a program to develop new full time community college mathematics faculty.  The program includes peer involvement and mentors to develop the participants through special workshops at two consecutive AMATYC national conferences and through a professional development project between the two conferences.  The participants present their projects to the group at the second conference.  A sampling of workshop topics from the AMATYC meeting in Minneapolis, November 2007 and this year’s professional development project will be discussed.  At the end of the presentation information regarding applying for the AMATYC Project ACCCESS 2008 – 2009 Cohort will be available.
 
Beyond Crossroads - What Is It and How Can It Help You?

  AMATYC's Beyond Crossroads was released in 2006 and was meant primarily to help instructors improve their work in their own classrooms and departments. The purpose of this session is to explain what changes are recommended in Beyond Crossroads and provide the participant with some practical ways in which they can implement these changes.
 
Create Multi-Media Course Enhancements for In-Class or On-Line Course Delivery

  The presenter will demonstrate how to use Photo Story II, free software from Microsoft, to create multimedia enhancements for the classroom.
 
Topical Discussion:  Calculus and Transferability

  The purpose of this discussion time is to share the current status of calculus transferability at each of our schools, the current efforts being made at each school, concerns we may still have regarding course equivalency (or lack of), and if we desire to present a united front on any particular issue at the next Core Competencies meeting.
 
Does a Czech Delta Imply an Epsilon Inspiration?

  The presenter will share his experiences in attending the ICTMT (International Conference on Technology in Math Teaching) last summer in the Czech Republic, along with a publicly accessible web tool the conference inspired him to create that (he hopes) will enhance student learning of delta-epsilon proofs.
